Game Design assignment - "A short Reinterpretation"

A Short Sail was created as part of an assignment to reinterpret the released indie game A Short Hike by giving it a new identity. In this version, the theme of hiking was reimagined through the lens of sailing.

Play as Charmand, the young son of a cartographer searching for his missing father. Navigate the skies and chart your own map, calling on the winds for guidance. The player’s goal is to map every island and reach the legendary “Charchipelago” to reunite with his father.

This reinterpretation transforms A Short Hike’s mountain exploration into a gentle aerial journey centered on discovery & navigation.


This projetct was a lot of fun, and my classmates and I were actually very proud of what we did with it !

"We designed the map mechanic to give the player a true cartographer’s experience. The map begins blank, except for the starting point, and it’s up to the player to find their bearings. As they explore and discover the world, they gradually build their own map by tracing landmarks and sketching what they see. This process of exploration and drawing fosters a strong sense of discovery and investigation."
